there is a formula for calculating the “Closing setting height” (Hc) on a seaming machine. The formula is as follows:
Hc = M – A + 1.09
Where:
- Hc is the closed setting height.
- M is the height of the unsealed can.
- A is the height of the lip of the mandrel.
- 1.09 mm (0.043″) is a constant representing the compression plate lift during the actuation cycle of the first closing operation (0.56 mm or 0.022″) plus the reduction in packing height during this cycle (0.53 mm or 0.021″).
In order to carry out this task properly, it is necessary to have available the specifications of the supplier of containers and funds. Correctly adjusting the closed height setting is important for two reasons:
- The correct dimensioning of the body hook in the closure depends on the correct height of the closure adjustment.
- In filling plants, the proper position of the body flange in relation to the steam flow change parts must be achieved and maintained.
