Ten Malaysian artists with autism exhibit their works in prelude to major exhibition in Italy
Alice Chang Guerra, a Malaysian-born art promoter, is known for being the creator of Lai Lai, a gallery dedicated to showcasing the work of talents suffering from autism. He also leads the IM GROUP Foundation from where he devised a project to exhibit the work of autistic artists residing in his country as an opening for a large exhibition that is scheduled to be held at the end of these dates in Turin, Italy.
The latest community motivation for autistic art performance was called “Anak Syurga of Lai Lai Art Meets The Little Prince”. It was an event in which the best of an international contest were presented with their works. This led to the exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, which took place on Avenue K next to the Petronas Twin Towers and was promoted by You Ni Market. Soon, these ten selected artists will also be exhibiting their works in Italy.
Ms. Chang Guerra thanked everyone involved in the realization of this exhibition aimed at supporting autistic artists. This initiative offers the opportunity to showcase their work both locally and internationally, as well as helping them gain more confidence and courage to make their work known. To approach the theme You Ni Market, the artists were based on the character “The Little Prince” created by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry; however, they will also be participating in “IM MORE | The Tigers of Malaysia” sponsored by IM GROUP and Lai Lai Art to be held on March 31 at Istituto dei Sordi Torino in Italy.
IM GROUP’s “IM MORE” CSR strives to highlight the unique talent that many people with autism have for looking at the world from a different perspective than others. The exhibition “The Tigers of Malaysia”, located in Italy, wants to show how disturbing this rare ability is and the invaluable contribution that many autistic people offer to society. Ms. Chang Guerra was enthusiastic in explaining how with the new exhibition to be held in Italy, generally marginalized artists would have the chance to showcase their work professionally and gain development opportunities as a step towards empowering people. He ended his announcement by culminating with: Italy, get ready… here we come!
