Ball Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of sustainable packaging, has announced the construction of new state-of-the-art facilities in the UK and Russia.

The demand for ever more sustainable packaging, and especially aluminium, is accelerating the creation of ever greater choice for consumers – something that manufacturers must adapt to.

Each facility would, from 2023, produce billions of cans per year in a variety of formats and sizes.

In the UK, Ball has identified a site at SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway, an established industrial development in Northamptonshire. Construction will begin this year. The planned Kettering plant will represent Ball’s third beverage can manufacturing plant in the UK, adding capacity to its plants.

The plant in Russia will be built in the west of the country, in Ulyanovsk.

Ball Beverage Packaging Naro-Fominsk has signed a cooperation agreement for its construction with the Ulyanovsk Regional Government, which in June also granted the development status of ‘Highly Significant Investment Project’.

The Ulynavosk plant will bring the total in Russia to four.

Carey Causey, president of Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA, noted that with “demand for our infinitely recyclable aluminium packaging growing rapidly in an increasing number of categories, we are acting now to support our customers in the UK and Russia.

“The pandemic and changing consumption patterns mean consumers are enjoying more of their favourite drinks at home and on-the-go and want to buy products in packaging that they know will be recycled and can contribute to a truly circular economy.”
