History of the Galician Canning Industry
The canning sector has its own museum in the city of Vigo.
The Anfaco Museum of the Canning Industry aims to give this industry the importance it deserves through a collection that gives us to know not only the processes of elaboration of the products but its history, its evolution and its labor and social relationship with the population, through photographs that show everyday maritime scenes, views of the port of Vigo or the still lifes created with the cans of canned food; objects, materials and work tools, recreations of canning ships and many other elements that will make the visitor dive deep into the history of this.
The collection is structured around three axes: technological milestones, production processes and work organisation, with special interest in the role of women in this sector.
Funpromar (Fundación Clúster de Conservación de Productos del Mar), the entity that manages the Anfaco Museum has recently renewed its online image with a new website where you can find complete information about its collections.
But, if you wish to visit the Museum, you only have to go to the headquarters of Anfaco-Cecopesca, in the University Campus of Vigo.
These contents will soon be available online thanks to an agreement between Funpromar and the Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Universidade in the repository of Galiciana, the digital library of Galicia.
