The Can Makers, the body representing beverage can manufacturers in the UK, announced the appointment of Tim Conybeare, commercial director of Crown Bevcan EMEA, as its new chairman.

Specifically, the committee enthusiastically chose Tim to replace the general manager of Metal-Beverage UK & Ireland, Ardagh Group, who brings a wealth of knowledge to the role, gained from over 25 years across the packaging industry. Tim’s expertise in procurement, commercial and supply chain management will continue to be an asset to the Can Makers association and his appointment is in line with the biennial rotating chairmanship.

Tim noted in this regard that “over the past two years, the industry has faced a number of extraordinary challenges, and stakeholders along the value chain have continually demonstrated their resilience and innovative ability to meet them. Of course, many significant challenges remain, but the accelerated demand for beverage cans witnessed during the pandemic is evidence of the can’s popularity with consumers and proven credentials as a sustainable packaging format.” to which he added that “this global focus on sustainability is only going to increase and the beverage can, already the world’s most recycled beverage packaging format, is ideally positioned to help brands, retailers and consumers drive further improvements in environmental performance and make a positive choice for the environment.”

“In the coming months, can manufacturers will continue to advance a number of initiatives and communications programs to support the industry, promote the beverage can as the preferred format for beverage packaging and showcase the can’s sustainability credentials,” the new executive added.
