UK-based Small Beer, a London-based brewery has just launched its first 330 ml package for the three main beers it produces. “All factors in production and consumption affect the environment, and cans are generally better tolerated than bottles,” confirms brewery co-founder Felix James. “Cans are planet-friendly because they provide exceptional quality despite the fact that production is simpler,” he adds.
“Cans are slightly lighter than bottles, have more volume and stack neatly on shelves for efficient transport. The flexibility of cans means they are much less likely to be damaged in transit, which helps reduce waste in a sales-optimized electronic environment,” James notes.
Recently, the brand had already achieved an increase in sales after the launch of canned portions, and with the new initiative it is clear that more people will be able to enjoy the products. Small Beer’s will continue to bottle and bottle its five core beers, just as you can now buy them online.
James adds that “despite holding more beer than a typical 330ml long neck bottle, our small bottles are 20% lighter and their short necks allow 40% more beer to fit on a pallet, further reducing our carbon footprint compared to others. As recycling rates in the UK continue to improve and demand growth settles, we expect to reach a point where recycled aluminum stocks outstrip the market, at which point the argument is likely to shift to small bottles.
