American company Logan Aluminum has obtained ASI Performance Standard Certification for remelting, recycling, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling and coil finishing activities at its Russellville, Kentucky, USA facility.

Logan Aluminum is a joint venture between two ASI members, Novelis and Tri-Arrows Aluminum. Specifically, the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has reported that Logan Aluminum has been successfully certified to ASI’s performance standard in the areas of responsible aluminum production, sourcing and stewardship.

Fiona Solomon, ASI’s executive director, confirms that “this plant is an important node in the circular economy of the North American market, with the capacity to recycle more than 340,000 tons of aluminum scrap and an output of nearly 900,000 tons of new rolled aluminum products annually. We are pleased to see ASI members collaborating to show sustainability leadership in the industry by achieving ASI certification in key joint venture operations, such as this one.”

Van Mitchell, business unit manager, adds, “Logan Aluminum is committed to advancing sustainability, not only within our own manufacturing processes, but also in the larger supply chains by improving circularity and environmental stewardship. Our achievement of ASI Performance Standard Certification is an important milestone in our sustainability journey that underscores our drive to encourage responsible aluminum production and sourcing and contribute to the critical demand for sustainable aluminum products.”

Logan Aluminum produces aluminum sheet products primarily for the beverage can and automotive markets, with used beverage cans and other thin or light gauge aluminum scrap as part of the raw material. The Russelville, Kentucky plant is the largest single-can sheet facility in North America and supplies more than 45% of the North American can market.
