Work has already begun on the second factory that the global packaging giant Canpack, dedicated to the manufacture of the latest generation of aluminium beverage can bodies, will have in the USA.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, accompanied by state and local public officials, Muncie-Delaware County community leaders and Canpack representatives “turned the dirt” to celebrate the groundbreaking and construction of the 262,737-square-foot facility, which is scheduled to be completed next year. Canpack expects the new plant to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The new headquarters, which will have an initial investment of 380 million dollars, will occupy an area of 562,513 square meters in Delaware County, Indiana. The company says the new plant will generate 425 new jobs and 490 million dollars by 2025.
Canpack broke ground on its first U.S.-based plant a year ago in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. Roberto Villaquiran, CEO of Canpack says, “We are proud to bring to Muncie, Indiana, a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that produces aluminum cans, an infinitely recyclable and sustainable product. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Muncie community and contributing to the extraordinary business environment that exists in Indiana.
In the last 30 years the multinational has grown from a single steel food can manufacturing site in Poland to a truly multinational packaging manufacturer with nearly 8,000 employees and 28 manufacturing sites located in Europe, South America, India, the Middle East and Africa.
