Sustainability is at the core of the Brazilian aluminum industry, as a driver for decision making and for the implementation of actions and projects. The Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL), which represents companies in the entire value chain, from mining to recycling, has just joined ASI.

Another added objective of ABAL in joining ASI has been to encourage its associates to achieve this certification, which is internationally recognized by the aluminum consuming market. More than a certification, ASI promotes and encourages best practices in sustainability. It is an increasingly necessary platform, as it recognizes and values responsible management.

In addition, the association works through Technical Committees and Market Committees to develop its activities and meet its major challenges, among which are: competitiveness, the dissemination of aluminum applications and the encouragement of new applications, the consolidation of the industry’s economic interests and its representation before government agencies, safeguarding its institutional image and the aluminum product.

“In Brazil, several industries operate globally and need to be aligned with the best international practices. Therefore, we recognize that ASI certification is a fundamental reference for the aluminum chain, from end to end, meeting the highest performance standards in all stages of production. We are very proud to have representatives from each and every part of the value chain certified”, says Janaina Donas, executive president of ABAL.

“However, we still have a way to go and our role, as an association representing an essential sector for society, is to continually encourage Brazilian companies to prioritize sustainability in their operations and seek ASI certification,” adds Janaina Donas, executive president of the association.

Brazilian aluminum obtained ASI certification at all stages of the chain, in bauxite mining, alumina production and primary aluminum manufacturing. Major metal processing and recycling industries are also certified.

The Brazilian aluminum industry aims to be competitive, innovative, resilient and sustainable, providing certified aluminum products with low carbon footprint to meet the growing market demand and contribute with solutions committed to a sustainable, circular and carbon neutral future.
