This 2022, Trivium has decided to launch an exciting new design competition to celebrate the inspiring possibilities of metal packaging. The three winners are Caitlin Wagg, Inés De Cueto Escobar and Sebastián Ricardo.

The company reports that all entries were meticulously reviewed and evaluated by a panel of Trivium experts, in collaboration with two specially invited guest judges including Andrew Gibbs, founder of Dieline, the world’s most visited packaging design website, and Debrah Smith, creative director of packaging design visionaries Smith & +pueblo. “As expected, we received some fantastic and imaginative entries and are now very excited to reveal our three creative winners,” they note.

The first of the winners, Caitlin Wagg chose the beverage bottle category for her HB juice idea. Caitlin’s idea came from the idea that, in order to think creatively, you have to feed your brain with the right nutrients.

Using oranges grown in Australia as inspiration, Caitlin’s work was based on the properties of HB Juice, a satisfying drink that naturally stimulates creativity and supports mental well-being. In addition, the product name and its elegant and subtle design represents the creative thought process inspired by the iconic yellow HB pencil.

Pencils are a universal symbol of creativity and were one of the first instruments of self-expression and communication. HB juice promotes holistic thinking by combining creativity with unbridled imagination. As the author notes, “My goal for HB Juice was simple. I wanted to design a healthy drink that would encourage all Australians to think creatively and live a happier, healthier lifestyle.”

The second winner is Inés De Cueto Escobar. The winning entry chose the food can category for her fun cat food design. The author was inspired by her fascination with food and its packaging.

At first, his first thought was to focus on seafood, but then he realized that inspiration was right there in the room, in the form of the beautiful cat Ludi. Its author confesses that she had never designed cat food packaging before, but she was determined to create something fun that would definitely make people smile. Instead of including stereotypical cat images, he decided to create a “cat character” that would really capture people’s attention.

“In this project it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to do something fun, colorful and eye-catching. Basically, to take this opportunity to have fun, be creative and create something that I love visually and graphically,” emphasizes its author.

The last of the winners is Sebastián Ricardo. The starting point of his work was the phrase ‘shield and protect’. Your project, a sharp, cleanly designed, threaded bottle containing hand sanitizer. In addition, the concept balances the protective power of the disinfectant itself with the protection offered by the container.

The packaging itself functions as a shield that clearly expresses the ideas of public health and environmental protection, along with corporate and industry responsibility. The design allows the sleek brushed aluminum to shine through the center area for maximum impact.

The judges were impressed by Sebastian’s idea, which had been carefully thought out, and we liked the fact that he emphasized that the product protects both the body and the environment. It looked absolutely real and accurately reflected the high quality of Trivium’s premium packaging.

Its author concludes by adding that “I sought to design a product with a real and commercial appearance, but that at the same time has a story behind it that transmits important ideas and values. I did not focus only on the visual or functional”.
