Germany’s Beiersdorf has just laid the foundation stone for its new plant in Leipzig-Seehausen. To this end, the company will invest 220 million euros in this new cosmetics production centre and is committed to innovation and sustainability.
The new state-of-the-art centre will be located on the northern outskirts of the Saxon metropolis and will generate 200 direct jobs in the first phase. A new logistics centre for the company will also be built in the immediate vicinity. With this new facility, Beiersdorf is making its largest investment to date in a single location worldwide – for a sustainable supply chain infrastructure in the heart of Europe.
The company also points out that the new plant will generate long-term sustainable growth in Beiersdorf’s production network. Every year, up to 450 million cosmetic products will leave the assembly line in the new plant with an area of 32,000 m2, in particular deodorants, hairsprays and shaving foams for the entire European market and export. Depending on market and business development, capabilities can still be expanded.
“This is a unique project for Beiersdorf,” says CEO Vincent Warnery. “The construction of a completely new production plant in Germany for Central Europe is a great opportunity for us and, as we believe, also for the region. We are very pleased to be able to lay the foundation stone here today and look forward to the future of the new plant with great anticipation and great expectations,” he emphasizes.
In building the plant, the focus is now on innovation and a modular, flexible design. In addition. a high degree of automation will allow a perfect interaction of the production steps as well as high efficiency and productivity, from the delivery of raw materials to the finished product in the high-bay warehouse. The transformation process is expected to be completed in the course of 2023.
