The Aluminum Association, backing the use and production of the metal with its leading voice as an advocate for manufacturers, suppliers and others in the North American industry, has watched with concern as the ripple effect of Russia’s actions in Ukraine are felt around the world.

Today, the association represents companies that produce 70% of the aluminum in North America, which also develop global standards, business intelligence and many other tools for its members. In addition, they contribute to the economy and people with sustainable and innovative work ranging from more fuel-efficient vehicles to recyclable packaging, greener buildings and modern electronics. This represents an estimated $176 billion worth of economic activity in the United States and more than 634,000 jobs.

“The aluminum industry stands united in support of any and all efforts deemed necessary by the U.S. government and its allies to address this ongoing crisis. This is a global humanitarian and security disaster that goes far beyond the interests of any one industry. We will work closely with our members to help ensure compliance with these recently announced sanctions. Russia accounts for about 3% of total U.S. aluminum imports.”said the association.

The United States imported about one-third of Russian aluminum as in 2016 and 2017. Today, many U.S. aluminum companies have diversified away from Russian imports since sanctions (later lifted) were imposed on the metal in 2018.
