KRISTAL KOLA TO LAUNCH TURKEY’S FIRST SPRING WATER IN CANS

The Kristal Kola company will launch Turkey’s first spring water in cans. The first batch that will be available for consumption will be a limited edition with a green can and red closure to celebrate the first anniversary of the launch.

Kristal chose a manufacturer, Crown Bevcan, to produce the cans at its Osmaniye plant in southeastern Turkey. In addition, this manufacturer provided information on the carbon footprint produced by the company, which says that recycling aluminum saves up to 95% of the energy used to produce virgin aluminum. Displayed in Turkish and English, the message is an integral part of the package design. The goal is to educate consumers about the metal, mentioning that recycling aluminum saves up to 95% of the energy used to produce virgin aluminum and that more than three-quarters of all aluminum produced is still available for use today.

“To Kristal Kola, recycling and our awareness of sustainability are of paramount importance,” said Bayram Altuntoprak, Kristal’s Marketing Manager. “That’s why we continually strive to develop projects that prioritize time and cost values for our consumers and our natural environment. We believe the best way was to introduce bottled water in cans which, together with many years at the top of the market, would make this innovation possible for the first time. We are confident that it will be a pioneering success in the industry. Working for Crown for many years, they were the perfect partner to bring this new project to fruition,” added Altuntoprak.

The collaboration represents a major milestone for Kristal in its sustainability journey, making the impact and accuracy of the message points and graphics on the can critical. Water in cans is an important innovation for the traditional water industry; being the first in the country to launch a canned water will demonstrate Kristal’s support for improving the sustainability and accessibility of an increasingly limited global resource.

“Kristal came to us with a vision to make a difference: to create a better and more sustainable world through the products it offers,” noted Veronique Curulla, director of marketing and business development for Crown Bevcan EMEA. “These are values that are very much in line with our own and those of Welcome Ajans, Kristal’s design agency. We made sure the message was factually accurate and seamless in appearance once printed on the can itself,” said the director.

The can finishes find their beauty in the raw aluminum, with the text highlighted in a dark blue. This material also has a matte finish for a premium feel and each package has sustainability statistics. In addition, the cans include recycling messages for consumers to use Metal Packaging Europe’s “Metal Recycle Forever” logo.

For his part, Şafak Akçam, department director of Welcome Ajans’ corporate department – a Turkish group with a worldwide reach – stated that “from the moment we started working on the project, our entire team was very enthusiastic and seeing Crown share the same emotions as the rest of us motivated us even more. Commercial concerns aside, creating a small contribution to a better and more sustainable world will be a source of pride for us and for Kristal Kola, and receiving excellent feedback from a team that specializes in the subject also gave us real joy.”

Kristal canned water will be available for purchase in retail stores in Turkey. The first project of its kind in the country will establish Kristal Kola as a leader in sustainability, marking the company’s broader commitment to promoting a circular economy in the region.
