Soft drink brand GUNNA Drinks, known for its anti-plastic campaign, has reported remarkable success since launching its aluminum-bottled lemonades in Midcounties Co-op stores earlier this year. The brand has seen a nearly three-fold increase in sales compared to its canned beverages, demonstrating a strong consumer appetite for sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic bottles.

The overwhelming success of GUNNA’s two 470ml aluminum bottled lemonades Turtle Juice (Tropical Lemonade) and Pink Punk (Raspberry Lemonade) has led to a significant expansion in distribution in the Midcounties Co-op group which will now be present in up to 134 stores.

In the United Kingdom, only 16% of the plastic entering the recycling system is reused. In contrast, aluminum is one of the most recycled materials, with 76% of all aluminum produced still in circulation.

These figures are central to GUNNA’s campaign to reduce plastic consumption by focusing on aluminum as an environmentally friendly and recyclable solution, and taking significant steps to support retailers and consumers in this mission.
Melvin Jay, founder of GUNNA Drinks, said: “We are delighted with the performance of our aluminum bottles in Midcounties Co-op stores. This success confirms what we have long believed, based on consumer research: shoppers are willing to make sustainable changes when a brand makes it simple for them and also delivers on taste and health.”

“The 1.8x increase in sales rate compared to our cans clearly indicates that consumers are actively looking for easy-to-make eco-friendly switches from plastic bottles.”
