The Packaging Value Chain, a non-profit organization dedicated to driving progress in the foundation and packaging industry, warns that the European Commission’s proposed PPWR review is not sustainable.
Today, nearly 60 packaging value chain associations issued a joint statement with industry to express serious concerns about the approach taken by the European Commission in its review of EU rules on packaging and packaging waste.
Among their demands, they call for recognition of the key role of recycling in achieving packaging circularity to reach the 90% recycling figure. Also, a clear framework to enable collection, mandatory recycling while expanding recharge and reuse; as well as a new environment to drive investments in sorting and recycling infrastructure, which would make these sectors have a large increase.
Precisely, the packaging industry shares the ambitious goals of the EU Green Pact and the Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0 and is fully committed to taking action to take packaging sustainability to the next level. For that to happen, we need a corresponding supportive regulatory framework to help us further drive this change.
