With the intention of making its production operations more sustainable, Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC) has decided to invest a figure equivalent to 11.5 million euros in the modernization of its filling and packaging equipment at its Northampton plant. In this way, CMBC is taking steps to improve its environmental impact and reduce its carbon footprint.
Edgar-George Petsche, who serves as executive vice president of Market Zone Europe at KHS, explained that his company has a strategy focused on sustainability. To achieve this, they have implemented energy-efficient lines and machines and packaging systems that are safe and environmentally friendly.
Nature MultiPack, also known as Snap Pack in the UK and marketed by CMBC, is a packaging that converts beverage cans into a solid pack by applying a few dots of adhesive.
CMBC has made a new investment in a second-generation Innopack Kisters NMP packaging machine that allows them to double the amount of containers produced. With its capacity of 108,000 cans per hour.
In the filling stage, the line will use the Innofill Can DVD technology to improve operational efficiency and reliability. This machine will work in conjunction with the FS14 can seamer from the Swiss company Ferrum, which has a double lid infeed.
The KHS flexible filler not only has a maximum throughput of up to 90,000 cans in different sizes per hour, but also features a small hygienic area that ensures proper and sterile air flow in the sensitive area.
According to estimates, the use of the three new machines that CMBC has acquired to modernize its brewery, including two KHS machines, could reduce water consumption by 10% annually. This measure could save approximately 18 million liters of water each year.
