US-based Summit Packaging Systems (Summit) has unveiled new expansion plans that focus on expanding its facilities with a new 23,000-square-foot plant at its existing Racine, Wisconsin location, which will generate another 145 extra jobs.

Summit evaluated expansion options in New Hampshire and Wisconsin. According to the company’s chief financial officer, Michael Conway, proximity to the company’s Midwest customer base played an important role in choosing the proposed location in Racine County.

The Racine County Economic Development Corporation worked with the City of Racine to secure Summit’s investment by connecting the company with local resources and offering financial assistance to reduce rising construction costs.

Scott Gilroy, Summit’s vice president of operations, notes, “For all of the communities in which we operate, one of our top priorities is to work with local organizations to facilitate investment and local workforce development. The City of Racine, and Racine County as a whole, provide businesses like ours with unparalleled resources to succeed.”

The increased property increment created by Summit’s investment will result in new property tax revenues that the City proposes to share with the company on a pay-as-you-go basis for 10 years. Following approval, construction is expected to begin in April.

The company, a global manufacturer of actuators and aerosol valves, began operations in 1987 and moved to its current location in 2010. Since its relocation, Summit has grown from 50 employees to more than 200. The company is headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire, with additional facilities in the Netherlands, Argentina and Poland.
