Reckitt recalls 145,000 cans of baby formula due to contamination risk

Reckitt, the nutrition goods manufacturer announced the immediate recall of specific lots of ProSobee 12.9 oz. Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula due to the possibility that they were contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii.

Manufacturers performed rigorous checks on all products prior to distribution to ensure that none of them contained such infectious bacteria. The results of these evaluations were negative. During the period from August to September 2022, ProSobee Simply was produced in 12.9 oz. containers.

The company sold its products to a wide variety of retail outlets, covering not only the U.S. territory, but also Guam and Puerto Rico. The lots in question can be identified by the number on the bottom of the can.

Authorized by the Food and Drug Administration, the batches of products with an expiration date of March 1, 2024 were recalled. Both lots contain UPC codes 300871214415 and involve a large number of cans with approximately 145 thousand units.

“We are committed to the highest level of quality and safety and it is for this reason that we have taken this extraordinary measure. The batches in question tested negative for Cronobacter and other bacteria and this is an isolated situation,” the company said, adding that “after a thorough investigation, we have identified the root cause, which was linked to a third party material. We have taken all appropriate corrective actions, including the prohibition of obtaining this material from the supplier”.

“The health and safety of babies is our top priority. All of our products undergo rigorous, industry-leading testing and quality control to ensure that they meet or exceed all standards set by regulatory agencies, including the World Health Organization and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is for this reason that we have the highest level of confidence in the safety and quality of every infant formula we make,” they concluded.

“We are deeply committed to the safety and quality of the children’s products we manufacture, which is why we have met stringent standards to ensure the highest level of confidence,” Reckitt concluded.
