Qatar’s Qatalum, a joint venture owned by QatarEnergy and Norsk Hydro ASA, has obtained ASI Performance Standard (2017) as well as Chain of Custody Standard (2017) certification.
Specifically, the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that Qatalum has been successfully certified to ASI’s CoC Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard for responsible production, sourcing and management at its facility in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar. Qatalum has an annual capacity at 660,000 tons of primary alloy ingots that is used in a variety of industries, including automotive, construction, engineering and consumer goods manufacturing.
Likewise, the ASI Certification program became a multi-stakeholder consultation process, listening to the opinions of many people to prepare an environmental, social and governance standard that is among the best at the moment. The second environmental standard specific to the aluminum value chain, the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) sets out key principles and criteria in the respective areas under three pillars such as governance, environment and social.
