One of the four production lines of the Albras aluminum plant, owned by Hydro, in Brazil, was shut down last Saturday morning, local time, due to a failure in the internal power distribution, resulting in a 25% reduction of its capacity.
The affected production line produces 110,000 tons of liquid aluminum per year. However, the other three Albras lines were not affected and continue to operate normally.
The Albras plant has a total production capacity of 460,000 tons per year. In addition, the multinational Hydro owns 51% of the plant, while the remaining 49% is owned by Nippon Amazon Aluminum Co. Ltd. Albras is located in the city of Barcarena, in the state of Pará, in northern Brazil, next to Hydro’s alumina refinery, Alunorte.
