Recycling is increasing in Sweden and in 2020 the amount of packaging left for recycling reached a record high, according to FTI (Förpacknings- och Tidningsinsamlingen). The FTI report also shows that almost a quarter of all packaging is incorrectly sorted.
Precisely, one of the objectives of Emballators is to make it easier for the consumer to recycle packaging correctly. Together with its customers, the company works, for example, with mono-material packaging. According to the FTI report, 35% of metal packaging and 28% of plastic packaging is poorly recycled. The FTI says this is due to poor knowledge of packaging composition
“The metal bins and cans, together with the metal lid solutions, provide an easy-to-sort mono-material solution for the end consumer. One of the advantages of our metal products, in addition to their endless recyclability, is the fact that the consumer can easily recognise the material and thus avoid sorting errors,” says Stefan Bergström, Managing Director of Emballator Metal Group.
“Recycling the right way is not easy. Many products are made from one material that looks like a completely different material, which is why it is so important to have a dialogue with brand owners when developing new products. The ease of recycling is all about creating visual clarity about where a product belongs; plastic should look like plastic, paper should look like paper, etc. We are also always in dialogue with other companies along the value chain to make our packaging more circular,” adds Mats Jeppsson, Innovation Manager at Emballator’s Innovation Centre.
