APEAL, the organization representing European packaging steel producers, has appointed Metka Cavka Luciani as its new leader for EU-related issues.

After working for 15 years in the professional field and having a keen interest in sustainability, Metka joins APEAL from her position as sustainability account manager at Weber Shandwick. In addition, she has extensive knowledge of environmental care practices in packaging due to her position as director of public affairs at CEPI, the Confederation of European Paper Industries.

“Steel packaging already has impressive sustainability credentials. I am eager to draw on my varied experiences in sustainability and the FMCG sector to shape policy and influence stakeholder perceptions, showcasing the invaluable contribution steel packaging offers to Europe’s circular economy goals.”added Metka.

APEAL Secretary General Steve Claus welcomed the news of Metka’s appointment, highlighting his extensive industry experience and strategic vision. Claus noted that with discussions on PPWR coming to a close and attention shifting to secondary legislation, Metka’s deep knowledge in the packaging field and its skills in the food and consumer goods sectors will be invaluable in positioning steel as a key material in these important debates. He added that the team is excited to receive the valuable contributions that Metka will provide.

Its task will be to be the leader and administrator of the resources destined to the campaigns that promote the policies of the association. Metka is highly trained in European political and administrative issues, as he holds a master’s degree from the College of Europe located in Bruges, Belgium.

In addition, he is fluent in several languages such as English, French, Italian, Slovenian and Croatian, which allows him to easily communicate with different stakeholders across linguistic and cultural barriers. Thanks to her skills, she is able to promote the interests of the steel packaging industry in the European context.
