The winners of the METPACK 2023 Innovation Awards have been announced. The jury of the Metpack Innovation Award announced the award winners, which in this eagerly awaited 2023 edition went once again to the Koenig & Bauer MetalPrint group in the opro category, due to its innovative ‘MetalControl’ technology. The world’s leading trade fair also awarded Actega and Can Man respectively in silver and bronze, for their innovative contributions to the metal packaging industry. In this edition, about 19 exhibitors submitted 31 nominations to compete for this award.
On this occasion, the winners of the METPACK Innovation Award were selected by a jury of independent professionals. The panel of experts evaluated each participant using several conditions, such as the innovative concepts presented, the achievement of cost savings and an overall improvement in quality and sustainability. The results showed a great competition among the aspirants and the final decision was very close.
On this occasion, the leader in the printing and coating market, Koenig & Bauer MetalPrint, has been recognized for its innovation in the color control system, known as“MetalControl”. This invention scans each sheet to measure the ink density and adjust the parameters automatically. In addition, it helps to reduce claims, set-up times and misdeliveries by eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Thanks to this technology, greater color stability and consistency is achieved without human intervention.
ACTEGA GmbH, located in Wesel, Germany, has just launched a digital innovation that controls the amount of sealant applied to the caps by the rotation of the caps. This new technology called “ROTARflow” is able to detect the specific weight of the dry film and make immediate adjustments.
With the PowerCUT SuperFLEX duplex cutting machine from the Swiss company Can Man, fully automatic format changeovers are possible in a world-record time of 15 minutes. In addition to the enormous time savings, the innovation has another advantage: damage to the cutting tools is avoided by eliminating manual operation. The machine also offers maximum flexibility to cut all formats with high cutting accuracy.
This will eliminate unproductive periods as well as any type of manual intervention. Data obtained during production can be viewed from any digital device. At the same time, this method contributes to reducing economic, material and labor costs, while increasing the final quality of the product.
