Mahou San Miguel, a 100% Spanish family-owned beverage company and leader in the beer sector in Spain, has been awarded the Retina ECO Award in the ‘Efficient Consumption’ category for the energy efficiency project it is developing at its Burgos production center.

The initiative, developed together with the glass melting company Verallia, has stood out among 100 projects for its innovation and impact on the path to stop climate change. During its first year since start-up, the Burgos plant exceeded expectations for CO2 emissions and gas consumption by 13%, reducing them by 68%. The awards ceremony, organized by PRISA Media and Capgemini, was presided over by HM Queen Letizia.

The Spanish brewery Mahou San Miguel was recognized with the Retina ECO award in the “Efficient Consumption” category for helping to reduce CO2 emissions. This project came from the French corporation Verallia some time ago to collaborate with the company in its production center and the result was that some 100,000 packages were eliminated in a simplified way using these cutters alone.

The initiative established among the best approximately 100 proposals. In other words, PRISA Media and Capgemini have received 99 points in recognition of some great ideas that recognize it in the battle against climate change and sustainability in the world through the efficient use of technology.

Among the achievements, Verallia has managed to meet 18% of the target percentage assigned to them in their project and another 20% more comparing both cases. In addition, the minimum use of gas per kilogram produces much less CO2 according to the international standard of productives used to brew Mahou San Miguel beer, with 73% less CO2 consumption during processing.
