The brand Litoral celebrates 75 years since its creation in Gijón, when in 1950 the entrepreneurs García and Liñero decided to package the essence of Asturian cuisine so that it could travel beyond the region. Its star product, canned fabada, quickly became a gastronomic reference both in Spain and abroad.
Initially intended for Asturian emigrants in Cuba, Litoral fabada exceeded all expectations and led the company to abandon canned fish to focus on this traditional dish. Today, it maintains its original recipe, with 100% natural ingredients, its own Asturian compango, and a canning method that ensures flavor and food safety without additives.
Adapting to the times, Litoral offers ready-made dishes in just two minutes, combining authenticity and convenience. The brand has established itself as a benchmark in millions of pantries, standing out for its contribution of vegetable protein and fiber, and its contribution to a healthy diet.
The Gijón factory, which employs around 120 people, also reflects Litoral’s commitment to sustainability: zero waste to landfill and 7 million euros invested in the last five years to reduce water and energy. The “grandmother” of Litoral, an icon of the brand, symbolizes the tradition and homemade flavor that define each can.
During the pandemic, the company reached a production record—more than 300,000 cans a day—and made donations of food, masks, and products to affected communities, demonstrating its commitment to society.
In addition to fabada, Litoral offers more than 20 recipes and formats, such as cocido madrileño, lentajas riojanas, and callos a la madrileña, as well as recent ranges such as Hoy Legumbres and Litoral Vegetal, always with natural ingredients and without preservatives.
Seventy-five years later, Litoral continues to be a symbol of the taste of home and Asturian gastronomy, combining tradition, innovation, and social responsibility.
