Hydro has given the green light for the construction of its state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, Michigan. The plant will produce 120,000 metric tons of recycled aluminum per year and will generate close to 70 direct jobs.
Groundbreaking ceremony in Cassopolis marks the start of construction of Hydro’s new state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant in the USA. Production at the plant will begin in 2023 when it is at full capacity, producing close to 120,000 metric tons per year of low-carbon aluminum extrusion ingots. The planned investment is US$150 million.
“Hydro has been in business as long as Michigan has been making cars, and this is where our infinitely recyclable aluminum really comes to life. With manufacturers’ shift to electric vehicles, combined with the growing need for aluminum, we see this as an opportunity to bring next-generation aluminum recycling technology, which we pioneered in Europe, to the U.S.,” highlights President and CEO, Hilde Merete Asheim.
The Cassopolis recycling plant in Michigan will strengthen the multinational Hydro’s capacity to supply recycled aluminum to automakers and other industries in the United States.
