The water crisis continues unabated in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. As long as citizens have access to the water system at established times, the companies Heineken and Grupo Alfa will build a well in the state, at a cost of approximately 20 million pesos.
Specifically, the brewing company, together with Grupo Alfa, had decided to donate the exploration, drilling and equipping of a new deep well of 3.1 million cubic meters per year. The company added that since April it has been donating 1.7 million cubic meters of water per year, which was generated at its Monterrey production plant and made available to Servicios de Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey (SADM).
The brewing company is aware of the crisis that Nuevo León has experienced throughout this year due to the water problem. They have had a commitment from the beginning with the state government, the National Water Commission and Servicios de Agua y Drenajes to together help solve this problem.
The brewery explains that the volumes allocated in concession for the entire industry in the state of Nuevo León correspond to 4% of the available water, a figure much lower than the 25% for public supply and only 71% used by the agricultural sector.
Plants that aim to maintain the security of water resources are those located in water-stressed areas. This includes the plants located in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tecate and Toluca. The inhabitants of Navojoa and Orizaba cannot wait to enjoy its benefits. The Mexican brewery stated that its facilities will use an average of 2.55 liters of water for every liter of beer produced by 2025.
