The European Aerosol Federation (EAF) ratified a joint industry statement issued by the companies that make up the European packaging value chain. The statement expressed serious concern about the approach taken by the European Commission in its review of EU rules on packaging and packaging waste.
The role that recycling plays in the circularity of packaging is very important. In addition, a clear framework to enable mandatory collection and recycling while expanding refill and reuse, an enabling environment to massively increase investment in sorting and recycling infrastructure, and the preservation of packaging functionality and product safety.
Industry supports the EU Green Pact and the Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0, a “corresponding regulatory framework” is needed. He added that the current approach would result in a regulatory environment that is “unworkable at best” and, at worst, would be “crippling for entire sectors of European industry.”
FEA was one of the signatories and stated, “While the aerosol industry is already committed to taking packaging sustainability to the next level, there are key points of concern, shared within the packaging value chain, regarding the future revision of the packaging and packaging waste directive.”
