  • Ecopeel’s enhanced inclusivity and practicality, as well as its branding opportunities, are evidence of Eviosys’ ongoing commitment to respond to the needs and desires of its customers.

June 28, 2023: Eviosys launches a revolutionary new can and peelable Ecopeel finish, offering a master class in sustainability, inclusivity and packaging with a strong commercial vision.

International packaging giant Eviosys presents its latest innovation: Ecopeel. An exciting development that revolutionizes the packaging industry and drives the adoption of new metal packaging. Because Ecopeel combines Eviosys’ 200 years of experience with the latest technology to offer an innovative product in the industry: a processable food can with a peelable film sealed directly onto the can body.

Ecopeel has been designed based on sustainability, practicality and inclusiveness. The traditional ring-pull mechanism is replaced with a foil directly sealed into the can. Ecopeel is lighter than its peers and facilitates carbon reduction by 20% per can. In this way, Ecopeel supports the business of the food industry to achieve sustainability goals and open the way to other options than plastic.

Ecopeel’s unique sealing surface has also been created based on the inclusion and reduction of organic debris. The 45° angle reduces the force required for opening and allows 100% can opening. In addition, the smooth body of the can allows full operability without obstructions or other materials around the opening, ensuring easier and more efficient use. For its part, it furthers Eviosys’ mission to increase the inclusivity of metal packaging and builds on the success of its other market-leading products such as Orbit, for a shift towards metal that is accessible to all.

Listening to customer needs is a fundamental aspect of Eviosys’ R&D strategy. Eviosys realizes that customers are looking for greater sealing efficiency, higher product visibility on the shelf, more practicality and better sustainability credentials, so it revolutionizes the sealing process to meet all these needs. After Peelfit in 2010 for dry products, Ecopeel is Eviosys’ second successful commercial launch using a direct sealing process.

With Ecopeel, Eviosys decreases complexity for its customers by offering a can with the foil pre-sealed with direct heat sealing technology, so brands only have to fill and seal the can. Thanks to this, Ecopeel speeds up the filling process by 5 times, in addition to being cleaner and safer and minimizing waste and energy use.

In addition, the peelable film offers unlimited customization possibilities, so brands can print their logos and product images all over the can surface. All in all, Ecopeel is undoubtedly a very attractive option for companies that want to make their products stand out from the competition.

Eviosys, which works in partnership with long-standing customers such as Jealsa and Friscos, is also in discussions with other customers across Europe to improve product deployment and expand the range to other markets, such as pâtés, pet food and olives.

Tomas Lopez, CEO of Eviosys, comments:

“Our main objective is to transform the packaging sector through innovation to enable a truly circular economy. Thanks to Ecopeel, we can offer our customers a transformed packaging experience, enhancing their sustainability and inclusivity credentials, speeding up their internal processes and improving their brand visibility. The product is already revolutionizing the Spanish and Italian fish markets, and we now look forward to enhancing the product launch and extending the range to other food industry markets.”

Jesús Alonso, CEO of Jealsa, comments:

“Protecting the sustainability of our products is a core aspect of our values, which is why we are proud to be Marine Stewardship Council certified. For us, it is very important to work with partners who innovate and can offer new ways to adopt more sustainable options in our supply chain, including our packaging. Ecopeel, Eviosys’ new product, sets a new standard in inclusive, accessible, sustainable and innovative food packaging, while allowing our customers to easily enjoy all of our products at the highest quality.”
