Every Can Counts celebrated World Oceans Day in Ireland with a giant sea turtle made from recycled aluminum cans on Dún Laoghaire Pier.
Made from 2,000 cans, the PixelCan artwork was made in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to highlight species that are currently endangered or vulnerable due to ecosystem degradation.
Alongside the art piece, dedicated Every Can Counts ambassadors were also on the dock, embodying the program’s mission to promote the recycling of beverage cans consumed outside the home and inviting the public to recycle their empty cans while on the go.
Every Can Counts worked to raise awareness about the importance of recycling beverage cans and collecting cans in their recycling backpacks. The deposit value of the cans collected will be donated to the Irish Wildlife Trust.
The sea turtle installation is part of the fourth edition of the Every Can Counts International Recycling Tour, launched on World Environment Day (Wednesday, June 5). The tour aims to highlight the importance of recycling beverage cans to save valuable resources and mitigate climate change.
