International packaging giant Eviosys launched a revolutionary new can and peelable EcopeelTM finish last June, offering a master class in sustainability, inclusivity and commercially savvy packaging. This is a traditional canning can with a peelable, smooth and sealed film directly on the can body.
Among its many benefits, EcopeelTM reduces the carbon footprint of canned food packaging by 20%, enabling companies to achieve their sustainability goals and easing the path to plastic abandonment. The increased inclusiveness and practicality, as well as the branding opportunities of EcopeelTM are evidence of Eviosys’ ongoing commitment to respond to the needs and desires of its customers.
In addition, the unique sealing surface of EcopeelTM has also been created based on the inclusion and reduction of organic debris. The 45° angle reduces the force required for opening and allows 100% can opening. In addition, the smooth body of the can allows full operability without obstructions or other materials around the opening, ensuring easier and more efficient use. For its part, it furthers Eviosys’ mission to increase the inclusivity of metal packaging and builds on the success of its other market-leading products such as OrbitTM, for a shift towards metal that is accessible to all.
With EcopeelTM, Eviosys saw decreased complexity for its customers, offering a can with the foil pre-sealed with direct heat sealing technology, so brands only have to fill and seal the can. Thanks to this, EcopeelTM speeds up the filling process by 5 times, in addition to being cleaner and safer and minimizing waste and energy use.
Tomas Lopez, CEO of Eviosys, noted: “Our main objective is to transform the packaging sector through innovation to enable a truly circular economy. Thanks to EcopeelTM, we can offer our customers a transformed packaging experience, enhancing their sustainability and inclusivity credentials, speeding up their internal processes and improving their brand visibility. The product is already revolutionizing the Spanish and Italian fish markets, and we now look forward to enhancing the product launch and extending the range to other food industry markets.”
Jesús Alsonso, CEO of Jealsa, also added: “For us, it is very important to work with partners who innovate and can offer new ways to adopt more sustainable options in our supply chain, including our packaging.”
Eviosys, which works in partnership with long-standing customers such as Jealsa and Friscos, is also in discussions with other customers across Europe to improve product deployment and expand the range to other markets, such as pâtés, pet food and olives.
