Henkel has launched an innovative sealant on the market that contains no additives. This new product promises to be a healthier and safer option for those looking for a quality seal without additional ingredients. With this launch, Henkel positions itself as a brand committed to offering innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Henkel Adhesive Technologies has recently developed an innovative sealant designed for use in cans used in the food industry.

The DAREX WBC 711 has been developed especially for use on tinplate or aluminum cans lined with showerhead or die coating. This product is capable of reducing Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) emissions by more than 30% compared to another compound, DAREX OP 2928, excluding in-use and end-of-life emissions. This data is based on Henkel’s carbon footprint assessment according to ISO 14067 from production to delivery of the product.

The industry faces a challenge when sealing tinplate or aluminum cans with rectangular or oval ends, also known as “jagged ends”. Unlike round ends, these cannot be evenly distributed by centrifugal force. For these applications, specific compounds such as Henkel DAREX OP 2928, DAREX OP 453 and DAREX OP 53BX have been used. However, additional additives have had to be added to avoid problems during processing, such as spider webs and compound droplets known as “angel hair”. With the launch of the newly developed DAREX WBC 711, Henkel Adhesive Technologies has succeeded in eliminating the need for these additives, thus reducing conventional sealing costs. This water-based sealer provides a cost-effective alternative for the same application and allows for better performance.
