World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated every April 28. To coincide with the event, the multinational Crown has launched a campaign entitled ‘Stop. Think. Act. An initiative that is part of EMEA’s operations to emphasize the importance of equipment operating at the highest level of health and safety.

According to the company, ‘Stop. Think. Act’ is an easy-to-remember outreach message that has enormous potential to prevent avoidable workplace incidents and injuries. It comprises three simple actions that will further improve safety standards throughout the company’s operations, ensuring that equipment behavior is focused on constant vigilance on the shop floor.

For Florent Gourven, Crown’s Quality EHS and World-Class Performance Director, “This is a long-term strategy that reinforces our unwavering commitment to what we believe is our most important asset: our employees. The health and well-being of our team members is our top priority, and ‘Stop, Think, Act’ will directly feed into our Total Safety Culture, which is an integral part of our operating philosophy worldwide.”

This campaign is one of the means by which the company has promoted a total safety culture, which requires responsibility and proactivity from employees at all levels. They have also implemented state-of-the-art software in all global operations to standardize data collection and analysis and track performance in real time.

They also incorporate multiple programs including safety awareness for employees (SAFE), safety circles and human factors training, provide ongoing dialogue between EHS managers and plant teams around safety, pointing out any potential hazards created by an individual task or behavior and identifying solutions to mitigate risks. This new initiative is just one of the steps the company is taking to reduce the total recordable incident rate (TRIR) by 20% by 2025.
