CONSUMERS CHOOSE THE ALUMINIUM CAN AS THE MOST SUSTAINABLE PACKAGE

With the turn of the century, beverage cans are still committed to sustainability and are the most recycled packaging in the world. In addition, in the last year they have made their way into the shopping basket of many Spanish consumers who are committed to health and sustainability when it comes to filling the fridge in this post-pandemic era. The data is clear, nine out of 10 Spaniards, specifically 91% believe that the aluminium can is the most sustainable beverage container at large outdoor events.

In the international survey conducted by the beverage can manufacturer Ball, respondents also differed in their assessment of recycling and sustainability as criteria for the choice of packaging. Spaniards with 92% are, together with Chileans with 94%, the ones who give more importance to these criteria followed at some distance by Americans with 78%, English with 77%, French with 75% and Germans with 74%, if we compare it with values of a year ago.

Also 90% of Spanish consumers consider the aluminium can to be the most practical beverage container. “The aluminium can is a versatile container, perfect for enjoying these moments of outdoor consumption as its weight has been reduced by 35% since the 80s, making it a light and easy to carry container,” says Myriam Galmés, Ball’s Commercial Manager for Southern Europe.

Galmés concludes by stating that “thanks to its recyclability attributes and design possibilities, it is consolidating itself as the packaging of the new categories of beverages or consumer trends”,
