U.S.-based Aluminium Insights has begun construction work on its new state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion plant. The project, which will require an investment of close to 15.5 million euros, will be located in Syracuse, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The new plant will be located in a building that will have an area of nearly 23,000 square meters, 500 kilowatts of solar energy on the roof and eight acres of native grasslands and trees surrounding the plant.
Founded in 2020, Aluminium Insights is a start-up company that aims to serve a select group of customers in the Upper Midwest to support their extrusion needs, seamlessly integrate into their supply chain and partner in innovation.
The extrusion press the company has chosen is manufactured by Presezzi Extrusion Group, based in Italy, which is a 2,920-ton press line that includes the latest in automation and mechanical technology and advanced safety features. In addition to the high-efficiency 26 MN indirect extrusion press, the site will include a CNC fabrication area, which will feature routing, cutting and machining of extrusions.
The new 26 MN indirect extrusion press will process 8-inch billets between 600 and 1800 mm in length. It includes the energy-saving PE.ESS system, which features a variable frequency drive (VFD) that minimizes energy consumption and reduces dead cycle time, thereby increasing productivity.
In addition, Presezzi will also supply the COIM log kiln and handling area and the complete handling system, which includes a HECS® air/water cooling system, a single extractor with flying saw, a cooling table, a stretcher, finishing saw, automatic stacker and basket handling conveyors, as well as the aging kiln.
Jeff Miller, CEO of Aluminium Insights states that “bringing equipment of this caliber to a new purpose-built facility will allow us to operate at a very high level from the start,” adding that “this business creates unique opportunities to be part of a world-class team and a world-class extrusion operation.”
Based on Aluminium Insights’ job creation plan, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will offer €730,000 in incentive-based tax credits. These credits are performance-based, meaning that the company is eligible to claim incentives once local Indiana professionals are hired and investments are made. The new plant is expected to be fully operational by April 2022.
