CadaLataCuenta, an initiative that promotes the recycling of beverage cans, joined FESTIVAL WOMAD ESPAÑA SL in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to raise awareness among festival attendees about the importance of protecting the environment. Together they worked during the concerts held last November to promote this cause.
At the WOMAD Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2023 Festival, the collaboration with the European program ‘Every Can Counts’, which seeks to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and sustainability, took place for the fifth consecutive year.
Professionals dedicated to promoting environmental awareness of the ‘Every Can Counts’ initiative conducted a walk through the streets with special backpacks to collect beverage cans and at the same time informed about the importance of recycling these cans in the yellow container. In addition, they also conducted surveys among festival attendees to learn about their recycling habits. In the results obtained in 2022, almost 80% of the people interviewed were aware of the location of the recycling containers at the festival and 70% considered the waste management during WOMAD1 to be positive.
On the other hand, Pablo García, director of the organization “Every Can Counts” in Spain, highlighted his commitment to support the WOMAD festival to make it cleaner and more sustainable. They are focusing on making sure that 100% of the cans used during the event are recycled, remembering that these are infinitely recyclable and it is an easy process.
The AME is an association that brings together companies engaged in the manufacture of metal containers, caps, closures and metal seals, as well as those engaged in related activities such as the decoration and varnishing of metal sheets and their stamping.
The association, which has an annual turnover of close to two billion euros, is made up of thirty companies of different sizes and origins. It is home to both large multinationals and family-owned Spanish companies, all of which specialize in the production of metal packaging and employ more than 6,000 people.
The association’s main objective is to promote sustainable production and support the circular economy, so all members are committed to these practices. In addition, AME is also a member of ECOACERO, an organization dedicated to the recycling of tinplate and belonging to Ecoembes, in line with its environmental policy.
At present, the total recycling rate for steel and aluminum is 86.9%, in order to meet the goal of minimizing environmental impact.
