Brazil achieved the highest level of recycling since they started measuring it in 1990 by reaching a record 390,200 tons of aluminum cans recycled last year. The country will be able to recycle all its aluminum cans by 2023 if this trend continues unabated, making it a global example in its segment.
After careful research by ABAL and Abralatas, Recicla Latas was able to gather the volume of scrap cans collected and recycled and the volume of cans sold reported by the Brazilian Association of Aluminum Can Manufacturers (Abralatas).

The investments made by the Brazilian aluminum industry in recent years have had a positive result, consolidating its position as the most sustainable and cheapest solution for the circular economy. According to Janaina Dantas, CEO of ABAL, this is due to initiatives aimed at increasing the number of collection centers and modernizing recycling plants. “The leadership of the Brazilian aluminum industry in the beverage can recycling chain is a direct result of the investments made by the industry in recent years to increase the number of collection centers and modernize the recycling plants.” reiterated Dantas.

ABAL’s CEO, Janaina Dantas, shared that the success of the aluminum recycling system is based on the social awareness and strategic relevance of these programs. The executive also explained that “we have a reverse logistics system that favors cooperation between the government, industry, society and collectors’ cooperatives”.
