In recent months, many multinationals have once again turned their attention to Rio de Janeiro due to its great potential. Brazil is today the world’s third largest producer of aluminum cans, with an annual volume of 32 billion units. Precisely, with the current market warming and unstoppable escalation in prices, Ball Corporation has decided to bet on reopening the Benevides plant that was closed for the last four years in Pará, due to the downturn in the sector.
“The Benevides plant will offer various sizes of aluminum cans on different production lines and, by supporting the growing demand from customers in the region for sustainable aluminum beverage cans, we will collaborate to tap the markets in the North and Northeast of Brazil,” confirms Carlos Pires, president of Ball South America.
The Pará plant will have a production capacity of 1.2 billion cans per year and will increase the supply of jobs in the region, offering slightly more than 100 direct jobs. The company expects to be operational again by the first half of 2022.
The reopening of the plant is part of Ball’s investment program in South America and aims to strengthen the company’s presence in the region. Last year Ball announced another important economic injection of US$90 million to build a factory in Frutal. With this new reopening, the multinational now has a total of 12 plants in the country.
