Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba), the world’s largest smelter excluding China has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) to explore opportunities to further increase its performance.

Following ratification of the agreement, both aluminum producers will seek avenues of cooperation to increase production at Alba’s Potline 6 beyond its rated design capacity, as well as explore the use of EGA’s technology and know-how in future expansions at the Alba smelter.

Alba’s chairman of the board, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, notes that “this MoU consolidates our technology partnership with EGA, our preferred partner. We are pleased with the performance of EGA’s DX+ Ultra technology on Potline 6 and look forward to working with EGA to further enhance our Potline performance. We are also excited to explore other opportunities to implement EGA’s technological expertise at our foundry for the possible expansion of Potline 7, in another close cooperation between our two nations: the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.”

For his part, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, vice president of EGA, adds that “this agreement is in line with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to further deepen the fraternal relations between our two countries. Aluminium Bahrain was EGA’s first technology customer, in a milestone for the development of a knowledge-based economy in the UAE. EGA looks forward to continuing to apply its technological expertise on a commercial basis to support its production ambitions. EGA’s goal is to be the technology supplier of choice in the aluminum industry, with technology as a growing revenue stream for EGA and providing a competitive advantage for the company’s own operations.”
