Miami-Dade County in South Florida is facing these days a resolution to eliminate single-use plastics and expanded polystyrene in public places or county-owned places, as well as in parks and offices, as reported by the Nuevo Herald. The alternative will be the use of glass and aluminum cans in the case of beverages. According to the newspaper, this is the end of a long process of discussions between state and local governments.

There are certain iconic places in the county such as the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, where this regulation is already in place, or Zoo Miami: on the grounds, vending machines are refilled with aluminum water bottles and cans with electrolyte beverages. The result is that the zoo reduced to 340,000 plastic bottles last year alone. A change that has not affected revenues, since the aluminum trash is purchased by companies that can recycle it indefinitely.
