The energy drink brand, Monster Energy and Every Can Counts (international environmental awareness foundation) are joining forces to promote recycling during the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia 2024 and raise awareness of the importance of caring for the environment in moments of leisure through art with the creation of pixelatas.
From May 24 through May 26, attendees will participate in the creation of two Pixelatas, large-scale artistic murals made with the cans consumed during the event. The activity will take place in the Paddock of the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia with the aim of raising awareness about the value of recycling also outside the home and in leisure time through an interactive activity in real time.
Pixelata
Pixelata is a project to raise awareness of recycling through urban art, created by the international environmental program Every Can Counts (Every Can Counts Foundation).
It consists of the creation of a large format pixelated mural, using recycled beverage cans painted on its base, where each can is a pixel that is part of a large image. He has been honored by recognized design awards such as International Design Awards (IDA 2018) and the Ibero-American Design Biennial (BID 2018).
Its goal is to create an impactful and unique experience to convey the importance of recycling such a valuable resource as aluminum, promoting recycling and the circular economy. As Pablo García, PhD in Ecology and director in Spain of the Every Can Counts Foundation, says, “this mural shows the effect of recycling beverage cans, where every small effort has a multiplying effect. If we were to produce new cans from these 2,000 cans that each mural has, we would save up to 200,000 liters of water compared to producing cans from virgin material”.
About Every Can Counts
“Every Can Counts” is a Brussels-based international foundation (Every Can Counts Foundation) that promotes the recycling of beverage cans at events and public spaces. This program, with a presence in 20 countries, was born in the United Kingdom in 2009 and arrived in Spain in 2015. Since then, “Every Can Counts” has not stopped working to raise awareness about the importance of recycling beverage cans in the yellow container, a gesture that helps to promote the circular economy and curb climate change, reducing CO2 emissions.
The objective of this program is to involve all citizens to achieve a 100% recycling rate for these cans which, being composed of metal, can be recycled infinitely without losing quality. To this end, the program includes collaborations with companies, entities and organizations through the incorporation of a beverage can collection system in public places. Its awareness-raising work has earned it an award for best Service Provider at the 5th edition of the Iberian Festival Awards.
