Once again LATAMCAN, held from May 11 to 13 in São Paulo, Brazil, has been the meeting point for technology and producers of two- and three-piece metal containers at the international level. The Latin American Conference of Can Manufacturers is in constant growth developing organizational strategies that stimulate the relationship between industrial suppliers and manufacturers of metallic containers allowing to consolidate each year a greater number of attendees, in a comfortable and essential environment for the exchange of information and closing of business.
According to its director, Raúl Martínez, this year’s edition has been a great success in terms of attendance, registering the highest figure since its inception, with an increase of 30%. “Both the technical presentations and the exhibition were very well attended even from the first day. This year most of the attendees were present at all the activities and this was noticeable in the atmosphere of camaraderie and enthusiasm for the success of the years to come in our industry,” he says.
For the head of LATAMCAN, Brazil has always been one of the countries with the highest attendance, due in part to the urgency for both suppliers and manufacturers to reactivate personal contact, after two years of uncertainty. In addition, Martinez emphasizes that all the presentations were very well attended because the topics discussed continue to be of great importance in this post-pandemic era. “Most of the world’s metal packaging manufacturers have expansion projects and Latin America is no exception to this trend. Many of the packaging manufacturers, especially aluminum beverage can manufacturers, have capacity expansion projects, either with new production lines, new plants or both,” he says.
On the other hand, he adds that food can manufacturers have also seen pressure to increase their production due to deficiencies in the supply chain, and shortages of some foods, especially infant formulas, canned food and other products, have begun to be noted. “We should also mention the importance and good reception received by the 2 and 3 piece forums. There is a high level of interest among packaging manufacturers for a forum where solutions to common issues can be presented, with the possibility of asking questions to each panel of experts. Undoubtedly these forums will be a recurrent inclusion in our next events”, he explains.
Another issue that captured the attention of the attendees was the preparation of new personnel, both leadership and operational. It’s a big issue and most companies know that good training facilitates the on-time start-up of their new lines, but also ensures minimum efficiencies to stabilize supply.
Martínez points out that among the upcoming challenges are the environmental regulations that are being approved in different countries. Brazil is the leader, together with Mexico, in the recycling of metal packaging, and both countries show impressive numbers. “This demonstrates our sector’s commitment to everything that has to do with environmental protection, seeking a balance between productivity and the protection of natural resources,” he adds.
Latamcan 2023 will be held in Mexico City from July 12-14 at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma.
