The multinational Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) continued the expansion process in Brazil, after announcing the construction of a new plant in the city of Juiza Fora in Minas Gerais.
It is the fourth aluminum plant that the factory has in Brazil and for this reason it was the company’s largest expansion project.
The new project will be located on a 260,000 m² site and will have 130,000 m2 of constructed area for production and stock, generating 380 jobs in the region. Currently, AMP already has plants in Jacareí (SP), Alagoinhas (BA) and Manaus (AM). The project is expected to be completed in 2023 with an additional 290 working days per year.
Jorge Bannitz, general director of AMP, explains that Juiz de Fora has been chosen as a strategic market to expand the company’s presence in the Southeast. It also shows that it is an important market that has seen a lot of growth in recent years and also the possibility of building a rail terminal at this junction using adjacent railroad tracks. The modal can be used to receive raw materials and transport finished products from Ardagh.
Brazil’s first copper mine guarantees high energy efficiency, with lower fuel and water consumption. Equipment will also be installed to reduce volatile emissions into the atmosphere and renewable energies will be used to minimize environmental impact.
Finally, the plant will be a zero-landfill site and will reuse its waste by transforming it into new products, such as raw materials for paints, bricks and other by-products. Indeed, a biodiversity maintenance program is in place to avoid the suppression of local vegetation.
