U.S. airline Delta Air Lines expands its beverage offerings in Brazil. The well-known airline has begun offering canned wines on its domestic flights. Specifically, the new product comes from the award-winning Imagine Estate Winery in California. This is yet another step in the company’s efforts to add more sustainable materials to its business.
The menu features two aluminum-packaged wine options: Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, both certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. Flight attendants will offer the single-serve cans and bottles using serving trays to minimize in-flight touch points. By the end of 2022, the beverage could be offered on all trips.
“Our goal is to serve all of our food and beverage offerings in the safest way possible, both for our customers and our employees. We always listen to our customers, and we know that beer and wine are the adult beverages our customers want most,” notes Allison Ausband, Delta’s senior vice president of in-flight service.
The aluminum can is the most sustainable in the beverage chain, as it is 100% and infinitely recyclable. In Brazil, packaging has a reuse rate of 97.4%. When properly disposed of, it returns to the shelves in just 60 days.
