Hydro and its employees have joined forces to raise funds in support of Ukraine. The Norwegian company, the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and the European Works Council have launched a fundraising campaign for UNICEF in support of those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the devastating situation in Ukraine,” says Hilde Merete Aasheim, Hydro’s president and CEO. Although Hydro has no operations in Ukraine, the company has some 400 Ukrainian nationals working at its extrusion plants in Poland. Hydro’s team in Poland is doing everything possible to help our people affected by the conflict in Ukraine in this difficult situation.
“Our first priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees. We are continuously assessing how we can provide support in this difficult situation. In addition, we are helping the families of our colleagues in any way we can,” adds Aasheim.
Hydro’s extrusion plants in Poland are organizing group transportation to and from the Ukrainian border for employees who want to bring their families to Poland. They are also offering accommodation to families upon arrival in Poland. At the local level, Hydro will also assist families in obtaining the necessary documents for the stay in Poland.
“The humanitarian suffering and need for help in Ukraine is enormous. We encourage our union members and everyone else at Hydro to donate the equivalent of one working hour to support UNICEF,” says Tor Egil Skulstad, Chief Employee Representative and leader of Hydro’s European Works Council. Hydro, a partner of UNICEF Norway, will match donations from its employees. Fundraising will end on March 15.
