The American company Gnarly Sports Nutrition, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, has taken the step of betting on more environmentally friendly and infinitely reusable packaging such as aluminum. It has just announced that it is in the process of transitioning all of its plastic product packaging to tin-coated steel cans.

Stylish and durable steel cans are made in the USA. The company that manufactures sports nutrition supplements has begun the transition with its Pre Workout and BCAA products. Collagen Pro, whey and vegan products will be the next to switch to the new, more sustainable packaging. Gnarly hopes its new packaging solution will inspire other brands to reduce plastic waste.

“Thus, switching to tin-coated steel because it has the highest recycling rate of any material, with about 71% reuse compared to 8% for plastics. A few months ago we hinted at this exciting news. Now, we are proud to share that we have officially begun our transition to a more sustainable packaging solution, replacing plastic tubs with steel containers,” notes Gnarly Nutrition CPO Shannon O’Grady.

O’Grady further notes that “after listening to feedback from our customers and months of painstaking research, we came up with steel cans as the next step on our road to progress when it comes to recycling. We know this isn’t a final solution, but it’s a step in the right direction.

In this way the company continues on the path of its ecological policy. While Gnarly Nutrition plastic tubs have historically been made from recyclable plastic, it can only be recycled once or twice before it begins to decompose beyond recyclability and with the concern of creating microplastics. The majority of all new steel manufactured comes from recycled steel.
