Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. together with Suntory Holdings Limited and UACJ Corporation, announced that they have received the ‘Award of the Director General of the Industrial Science and Technology and Environment Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’, one of the top Japan Star Awards of the Japan Packaging Contest 2023, organized by the Japan Packaging Institute.
This award is given to those who have contributed to reducing environmental impact. It is also the highest award of the Japan Packaging Contest. The winning product is the world’s first beverage package made from 100% recycled aluminum, jointly developed by the three companies for The Premium Malt’s CO2 reduction can and The Premium Malt’s “Kaoru” Ale CO2 reduction can, which went on sale on September 6, 2022.
The Japanese company has also proposed its medium- and long-term environmental goals, the Green Action Plan 2030, to advance our efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. “Specifically, we have raised our 2030CO2 reduction targets from 35% to 50% for emissions from our operations and from 20% to 30% for emissions from our supply chain compared to 2019 levels. The revised targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets (SBTi)* initiative under its updated target validation criteria for the 1.5 °C scenario.”The company said.
In this regard, they added that “We intend to achieve the initial 35% reduction by 2027, three years ahead of the original schedule. By accelerating energy savings and the use of renewable energy, we aim to continuously reduceCO2 emissions to meet targets aligned with 1.5°C and thereby achieve carbon neutrality, a 2050 goal towards a carbon-free society.”
