Sherwin-Williams publishes ‘Can Coatings’ white paper on sustainable packaging

Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings published the report called ‘Can Coatings: Unlocking the Future of Sustainable Packaging’, which addresses the relevance of coatings to the future of sustainable packaging in the European food, beverage and household goods markets. The paper details why metal cans are popular with the public due to their infinite recyclability and safety and performance benefits, which contribute to a circular economy.

The paper also unpacks how coatings can play an integral role in mitigating can corrosion and supporting sustainability goals, in particular examining Sherwin-Williams valPure V70, the world’s first BPA-free epoxy coating that offers exceptional corrosion protection, flavor preservation and packaging performance while meeting stringent international food safety regulations.

“As regulatory agencies continue to evaluate proposals limiting the use of BPA-based products, now is a good time for industry stakeholders to re-evaluate their can coatings,” said Sarah Dubail, senior regulatory specialist at Sherwin-Williams. “ValPure V70 is a globally recognized BPA-free epoxy can coating designed to provide the same industry standard for epoxy coatings and is backed by more than 10 years of research and development.” concluded the expert.
