WestWood® Kunststofftechnik now uses Muhr & Söhne tinplate containers made from Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’ s CO2-reduced recycled Bluemint® for the safe storage and transport of its PMMA system solutions. PMMA sealing and coating systems are highly reactive, so sealed tinplate containers offer maximum protection and the highest possible level of safety for the packaging and transport of this filling material. In addition to the advantages from a product point of view, tinplate containers made with Bluemint® Steel contribute significantly to the CO2 reduction targets of packaging companies.

With Bluemint® recycled rasselstein®, Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein has a product with reduced CO2 intensity in its portfolio. The material properties of the tinplate do not differ from existing grades; however, the product is characterized by a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 62% during production. “In the production of Bluemint® recycled steel, specially processed steel scrap is used, which saves part of the iron ore and coking coal in the blast furnace. As a result, the tinplate packaging used is even more sustainable.” says Carmen Tschage, Head of Communication and Market Development at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein. The CO2 savings of tinplate have been confirmed and certified by DNV.

“We have been supplying many PMMA system solutions in tinplate packaging from our partner Muhr for many years,” says Alexander Westphal of the WestWood® management team. “When this innovative joint project presented us with the opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions, we were the first PMMA manufacturer to seize the opportunity.”

As a manufacturer of chemical-technical tinplate packaging, Muhr Metallverpackungen also exploits the added value of recycled bluemint® for its customers: “We have been conserving valuable resources for many years thanks to our patented tinplate packaging design with significantly reduced material usage.” reports Klaus Wilmes, Managing Director of Muhr & Söhne GmbH & Co. KG. “Now, however, we can also significantly improve our customers’ carbon footprint with the help of the CO2-reduced material, while maintaining high performance. This fits in with our business strategy, which clearly places sustainability at the center.”

WestWood® saves more than 258 tons of CO2 eq annually thanks to the innovative bluemint® containers from Muhr Metallverpackungen alone.
