The UK water beverage market is recovering. Specifically, tap water consumption in the United Kingdom grew by 9% over the past 2021 to 3.5 billion liters. Volumes of flavored water beverages recorded even stronger growth, increasing by 11% to 440 million liters. In terms of retail sales value, a more modest growth of close to 3% was recorded for an estimated value of £2.5 billion, after experiencing a 25% drop two years ago.

In this regard, Zenith’s global president, Richard Hall notes that “seeing the market return to near pre-pandemic levels is a very promising step. Consumers have recognized the health benefits of staying hydrated during the pandemic. Adding the reopening of the hospitality trade and a gradual recovery for on-the-go consumption occasions, there are many reasons for future optimism.”

In the face of the slight recovery, further volume growth of close to 3% is expected in 2022, driven in part by events attracting renewed local and international tourism, such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
